QUICK FACTS

Family Paths was founded in April of 1972 as a volunteer-run hotline for stressed parents under the name Parental Stress Service. Since 1985, we have been headquartered in Oakland, CA at the Grove Building at Martin Luther King, Jr. Way and 18th Street and in 2001 purchased the building as our permanent home. In 2005 the organization was re-named Family Paths, retiring the former Parental Stress Service in name only. Today, Family Paths’ 24-hour Parenting Stress Helpline continues and the agency thrives as a leader in community mental health, child abuse prevention and treatment, and family support services like parent education. Annually, our Parenting Stress Helpline fields over 4,000 calls, and currently has approximately 900 referral sources in our database to help support parents and families in Alameda County. In 2020, Family Paths became the lead agency of the Strong Families Alliance of Alameda County, an initiative of the Alameda County Social Services Agency and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Alameda County to form a coalition of a dozen agencies and connect residents of Alameda County, and the greater Bay Area, to community resources, providers, and supports local to them..
